George Tsoflias received a B.S. (1989)
and M.S. (1991) in geophysics from Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University, and a Ph.D. (1999) in geological
sciences from The University of Texas at Austin. He was employed
as a geophysicist for Mobil Oil from 1991 to 1995 and for the
U.S. Department of the Interior from 1999 to 2003. Since 2003 he
has been an assistant professor at The University of Kansas,
Department of Geology. Tsoflias’ research interests include the
study of ground-penetrating radar and seismic methods for
characterization of near-surface anisotropy and its effect on
the fluid-flow properties of geologic formations. His current
research involves the study of GPR signal polarization
properties for the characterization of natural fractures.
